The town nearest Orchid Bay is named Cabrera and is located about two 2 kilometers to the northeast. It has restaurants, small shops and both grocery and liquor stores. The people of Cabrera and the Dominicans in General are warm, hospitable and generally easy going. The Dominicans take great pride in their country which is both Democratic and one of the most economically vital in all the Caribbean. There is also little or no violent crime. Probably the only down side of the area is the electric power system which does have frequent outages. This is not an issue at Orchid Bay since all of the villas have their own independent and continuous electrical power systems.
